Boston College Move Out – May 15 – May 24

The biggest donation week of the year is coming up for Household Goods, and we could use your help!

Boston College’s graduation is Monday, May 23. On that day, and in the week leading up, thousands of BC students will be moving out of their dorms and leaving behind usable household goods, including lamps, microwaves, coffee makers, vacuums, sheets, towels, blankets, and more for Household Goods.

These items are critical to keeping Household Goods stocked with the essential items that families need to set up their homes for months to come. Help from volunteers during this time is crucial to making the collection a reality and a success.

Volunteers are needed to:

  • Collect and load donations at BC from Sunday, May 12 through Tuesday, May 21 – but especially Monday, May 23, graduation day.
  • Unload the trucks coming back from BC at the Household Goods facility, at 530 Main St. in Acton, from Monday, May 16 through Tuesday, May 24.
  • Sort, clean and process donations Monday May 15 through May 27.

More BC Move Out Details

  • Drivers must be approved.
  • Crew must be 18 to ride in Household Goods’ trucks (unless they are with their own parent).
  • Extra Crew can drive their own vehicles or meet our trucks on BC campus.
  • Please wear your orange Household Goods t-shirt
  • Most items we collect at BC are small, (lamps, microwaves, linens etc..) there may be the occasional piece of furniture, or TV, but everything is coming out of dorms, so most items are light.
  • We need people who can tally/inventory and sort the goods too, so you don’t need to be a “heavy lifter” to participate!

A 12-Year Partnership

For over a decade, Household Goods has worked with Boston College to pick up numerous household items donated by students who are graduating or departing for the summer. These items, such as microwaves, lamps, coffee makers, vacuums, etc., are a great resource for Household Goods to subsequently provide to families and individuals in need. In collection drives in years past, BC students generously donated more than 1,600 bags of sheets and towels, 600 lamps, and 770 small appliances to Household Goods.
