Donate Furniture, Beds, and Household Items to Household Goods

Household Goods provides good quality used household furnishings free of charge to individuals and families in need. To furnish 50 homes a week, Household Goods needs a steady stream of clean, usable:

  • dressers, tables, chairs, and other furniture;
  • mattresses and bed frames;
  • dishes, flatware, and kitchen items;
  • sheets, towels, and other bed linens;
  • and other household items.

In addition to providing basic furniture and household items, we provide a dignified and respectful experience for our clients. When considering what to donate, select items that are in good condition, that will last, and that our clients will be proud to have in their homes.

What We Can Accept

Click on each of the categories below to see what we can and cannot accept. We cannot afford to take and dispose of broken, torn, stained or unusable items. Please contact us if you are uncertain about whether we will accept your item.

Furniture

  • Mattresses & Box springs (no rips or stains), Bed frames, Bunk beds
  • Bureaus, Dressers, Armoires
  • Couches, Sofa Beds, Futons
  • Chairs (no office chairs)
  • Tables (no glass top): Kitchen, Dining, Coffee, End, Nightstands, TV Stands
  • Sideboards, Bookcases, Cabinets, Entertainment centers (up to 6.5 ‘ tall or wide)

We cannot accept: Oversized items (over 6.5′ tall or wide), Air Mattresses, Hospital, Water, Motorized or Sleep Number Beds; Loft Beds; Bean Bag Chairs; Desks, Metal Cabinets, Wall Mounted Cabinets, Office Furniture, Office Chairs, File Cabinets, Wall-mounted Furniture or Shelves, Gaming, Glass-top or Drafting Tables

Kitchen Items

  • Pots and Pans
  • Bakeware
  • Cooking Utensils
  • Dishes, Glasses, Flatware

We cannot accept: Stemware, Wine Racks, Mugs and glassware with logos

Linens

  • Mattress Pads
  • Sheets, Blankets, Comforters
  • Bed Pillow (new or like new)
  • Towels
  • Curtains and Curtain rods

We cannot accept: Electric Blankets, Mattress Toppers, Custom Window Treatments, Blinds, Shades

Small Appliances

  • Blenders and Food Processors
  • Coffee makers
  • Electric kettles and fry pans
  • Fans
  • Irons and Ironing boards
  • Lamps (no halogen lamps)
  • Microwaves (countertop only)
  • Mixers
  • Slow Cookers
  • Sewing Machines
  • Toasters, Toaster Ovens
  • Vacuum Cleaners

We cannot accept: Built-in appliances, Air purifiers, Bread machines, Catering equipment, Coffee Urns, Dehumidifiers, Deep Fryers, Fondue pots, Humidifiers, Ice cream makers, Pasta Machines, Popcorn Poppers, Personal Care Appliances, Warming Trays, Other specialty Appliances, Flood lights, Wall-mounted Lamps

Large Appliances

Under 10 years old

  • Refrigerators
  • Washing Machines and Electric Dryers
  • Air Conditioners (no larger than 18″x 30″ x 24″)

We cannot accept: Built-in Appliances, Cooktops, Ovens, Stoves, Gas Dryers, Dishwashers, Freezers, Large Appliances over 10 yrs old

Electronics

  • DVD Players
  • Radios and Compact Stereo Systems
  • Flat Screen Televisions with attached base

We cannot accept:  Computers Components and Monitors, Printers, Tapes, CDs, DVDs, Stereo Components, Speakers, Turntables, Copiers, Scanners, Fax Machines, Slide Projectors, Phones, VCR/VHS Players, Non-Flat-Screen TVs, Flat Screen TVs without Attached Bases, Wall Mounted TVs

Baby Items - must meet current safety standards

  • Bassinets
  • Car seats (5 years old or newer)
  • Changing tables
  • High chairs
  • Pack-n-plays
  • Safety gates
  • Strollers
  • Toddler beds

We cannot accept: Recalled Items, Cribs and crib bumpers, Cradles, Carriers, Bike seats, Exersaucers, Jumpers, Swings, Toys, Walkers, Playpens

Miscellaneous

  • Mirrors and Framed Art up to 36″
  • Home Decor Items
  • Rugs (bound, 8×10 or smaller)

We cannot accept: Baskets; Books, Picture/Photo Frames; Candles; Candlesticks; CD, Tape and Magazine Racks; Fireplace Tools; Rug Pads; Holiday Items; Punchbowls; Vases; Unframed Art

WE CANNOT ACCEPT ANY RECALLED ITEMS AND THE FOLLOWING:

ALL ITEMS MUST BE LIGHT ENOUGH TO BE CARRIED BY TWO PEOPLE.

Where to Donate

Donations can be dropped off at Household Goods, 530 Main Street, Acton, MA 01720.

When to Donate

Drop-off  hours  are

  • Tuesdays 9am – 12noon
  • Thursdays 9am – 12noon
  • Saturdays 9am-12noon

Please do not leave donations when we are closed.

Household Goods has a limited pick-up service staffed mainly by volunteers for larger items. Learn more about our pick-up service here.

Please note we have a drop box container for the local non profit More Than Words for books, DVDs, CDs, audio books, & video games located in our parking lot. We also have an Epilepsy Foundation drop box for clothing donations located in our parking lot.

If we do not accept your item or are out of your area, please check our list of other other organizations.
